Catalogue text

This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Buku-Larrngay Mulka Arts which states in part: 'Patterns at the top and bottom of this bark refer to Nalkan, an area of Naymil clan land… The middle section depicts the freshwater place Gudalmirri. The songs of this place are danced by the Dhuwa moiety clans, Rirratjinu, Datiwuy, Naymil. The goanna sit within water plants in the stream of subterranean waters spilling out above ground. Both the water goanna Wan'kawu and Gudurrku (Brolga) are manifestations of the Djan'kawu creation Sisters.'
