Catalogue text

This painting relates to the story of Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa (the Two Sisters Dreaming), and tells of the mythological travels of two sisters as they moved across the desert, stopping at sites to perform sacred dancing and singing. The places where the sisters travelled and rested can be traced and today their journey is sometimes sung by women as they paint. Nuanced, multi-layered, and especially important for the women, some aspects of the story are only told in whispers.
